Section of the cables is calculated according to the intensity of the current (A) and the distance to be covered. The standard section of a solar cable is generally between 4 and 6 mm². This is suitable for most residential installations. Some larger installations however may require larger sections.
Two cases are to be distinguished:
- the micro-inverters, connected in AC to the panel
- the central inverters and optimizers, connected in DC to the switchboard
The cable must be sized according to the maximum current, the distance between the two points to be connected and its application (AC or DC). For this, it is possible to consult tables of cable sections according to the distance and the maximum current. These tables are available online from your suppliers.
