Is it possible to connect panels of different powers on the same inverter?

No, even if this connection is technically possible, we do not recommend connecting separate power panels in series on the same inverter.

If such an arrangement were to be made, the most powerful panel will not be able to deliver its maximum power. It will indeed be limited by the weakest current that one of the panels can deliver.

Part of the irradiation that the most powerful panel receives will not be converted into current, it will therefore be lost.

  • ...but surely with the use of PV optimisers (such as the ones that Huawei make) where the current of the offending panels is increased at the loss of their voltage, the more powerful panels are not pulled down to the level of the lower wattage panels because the current of the best performing panel is maintained.
